Information

Standard radio receivers of modem design offer features which obviously reflect the particular necessities of their utilization: the sensitivity is just adequate to the high power of the transmitters; the selectivity is compatible to the audio frequency baqd of the modulation; the construction answers the requirements of assembly line mass production. The exterior must satisfy advanced aesthetic demands and, last-not-leasb, the utter simplicity of the controls must be mentioned, which is imposed by the destination of the sets. Thus, if the features of a Receiver differ from those pertaining to the above mentioned products, their realization tends to abandon these particularities of the standard constructions and to adopt others more suitable to the results which are to be achieved. If, e.g., among the stations to be received there are some of very low signal strength, the sensitivity must be Increased above that of the classic 5-tube-superhet, the logical solution to that being the addition of an RF stage. Furthermore, the transmissions of interest might be mainly of the commercial type, i.e. consist of plain voice communication, telegraphy transmissions etc., and not of musical programs. The consequences of such requirements are further deviations from the standard Receiver model: the standard radio Receiver dial showing station names — to mention one typical item — will be of little use and largely unjustified, or, e.g. there will hardly be any justification for a large styling. To suit these demands and to satisfy users which may call themselves professionals, a new Geloso Receiver was developed, the G 4/218, which to a certain degree fits the category of the well known high frequency unit, the G 4/214. With this, the new set indead has certain affinities of use and completion, but it differs from them in it’s particular feature of continuous frequency coverage, whereas the above mentioned unit is destined exclusively for amateur band application.
